The "source" of imagination is the mind and the mind is a function of the brain. Imagination allows us to consider possible outcomes of alternative actions, a talent which undoubtedly helps with survival and procreation, thus resulting in a greater evolutionary benefit. Imagination is influenced by both affect (feeling) and cognition. Of course, there are those who believe what they imagine is actually a "spiritual reality"—and that is why our history is complete with countless religions, gods, mystical beings, and the ghost of Elvis.
